Space Six and The Empty Space are both committed to supporting performing artists in the North East of England to create work and develop sustainable livelihoods. They have teamed up to create SPACE/TIME, a bursary providing free rehearsal space, the funds to pay for artists’ time whilst they use it, and mentoring from The Empty Space.
From September 2016 to September 2017 Space Six will donate one pound from every hour of rehearsal room hire to build the SPACE/TIME fund. This will be totaled in September 2017, at which point SPACE/TIME will open for applications.
Every artist, company and organisation that books rehearsal rooms at Space Six between 9am and 7.30pm Monday – Friday, over the next year will be directly contributing towards, paying artists fairly and supporting the artistic development in the North East of England.
Space Six will not be raising rehearsal room costs to cover the bursary. As a Community Interest Company Space Six is designed to contribute to the community it serves, Space Six is run by artists for artists. Mentoring will be provided at no cost by The Empty Space so every pound collected from room bookings will directly fund space and artists' time.
This year SPACE/TIME is intended to support the development of new work, community projects or artist training.
The SPACE/TIME package includes up to 40 hours of free rehearsal room use in Space Six and financial support to pay artists working on the residency at a standard rate of £95 per day.
SPACE/TIME is open to individuals and companies
The 2017 deadline and details of how to apply will be announced in September 2017 on our facebook page www.facebook.com/SpaceSixNCL. Like us to make sure you don’t miss the announcement.
